Roof framing over a carport structure under construction

Service

Carports & Garages in Newcastle & Lake Macquarie

Carports, garages and workshops engineered for the span and tied into the house properly.

A carport or garage looks like a simple structure and it is the one people most often get wrong. It needs engineered footings for the wind loads, setbacks that satisfy council, and a roof that either stands clear of the house or ties into it with real flashings. Get any of those wrong and you have an unapproved structure that fails a building inspection when you sell.

What this covers

  • Single, double and tandem carports
  • Lock-up garages and workshops
  • Attached and freestanding structures
  • Engineered footings and wind bracing
  • Panel lift and roller door installation
  • Garage conversions to habitable rooms

FAQ

Carports & Garages questions

Do I need approval for a carport in NSW?

A small freestanding carport behind the building line can sometimes be exempt development, but most attached carports and any garage will need a Complying Development Certificate. Setbacks from the boundary and the building line are the criteria that catch people out. We check it before quoting.

Can you convert my garage into a room?

Usually yes. The things to check are the slab level and damp proofing, whether the floor needs building up, insulation, and whether your council requires you to retain an off-street parking space. We assess all of that before pricing it.
